Schone’s Scones has been a distant dream for over a decade. My love of baking began as a child when my Granny would make all sorts of fabulous treats like shortbread and gumdrop cookies. Granny always donned an apron and was more than willing to welcome me into her kitchen to absorb her love and knowledge of baking. (She taught me to always crack my eggs in a separate bowl in case an egg was bad. In over 20 years, I have never encountered a bad egg, but continue to follow her suggestion religiously!) The orange on our original labels was a nod to my sweet Granny who had an orange tree in her yard.

 

After our second daughter was born, I retired from corporate life and found more time for baking. It became my favorite form of stress relief and a fun way to show my love to friends and family. In fact, our first 2 Schone's Scones customers were Bensten’s teachers the year after his accident. Clearly, I express gratitude in the form of baked goods.​

 

As a mom to 4 active kids, I kept saying “maybe one day” to the idea of Schone’s Scones. When the pandemic hit and I forced our family into quarantine (weeks before it was mandated!) my girls encouraged me to start a small scale home-based bakery to help us pass the time. Our first day, I only made 2 extra loaves of bread just to see what would happen. They sold within minutes of our post. I was definitely not anticipating the incredibly positive response, but I am grateful beyond words. Izzy, Liliana and I had so much fun during the early months, creating our little bakery.

 

Schone’s Scones would not exist without tons of effort from everyone in our family. Lance built this website when he saw me jumping out of bed 10 times one night. Every time a DM came in, I would run back and forth to the kitchen to make notes and check ingredient quantities. He is definitely the brains behind the operation- and my biggest cheerleader. Schone’s Scones is truly a family business, and we are all incredibly grateful for the support from all of you!​​

Everything is made fresh daily, with no preservatives. We are baking as much as we can given our access to ingredients and man-power and hate when we have to post that we are sold out for the day.
